Embracing Change!

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

Life does change in a moment. If you really think about it, whether things change for the better or worse, it only takes a moment to do so. If life right now feels tough, uncertain, or it feels like you’ve had better days, what you need to remember is that nothing lasts forever. In this ever changing world, only certainty is the uncertainty.

We’ve become accustomed to a certain ‘normal’, from the time we were babies to now, depending on what our exposure and growing up was like. This differs for each of us what our normal is. When there is a shift in this normal, and we are forced to face change, we become defensive. We start functioning from a place of fear and our minds become chaotic with the thoughts running wild, bringing up different narratives of our situation that leads us to worry.

Why are we so fearful of change and where does this fear come from? Well, our ego/conscious mind is really not comfortable with the unknown and uncertainty. It likes having a sense of control. I say a sense of control because ultimately we have no control over anything that happens in our life. It also doesn’t help too much when we are taught and conditioned from a very young age, to try gain control over each area of our lives. We are taught this in schools, through movies we watch and most of what we consume through our surroundings.

We are always chasing after a certain goal, may it be related to a job, relationships, materialistic possessions, wealth, etc. We are engrained with a certain belief if we aren’t too careful, that these things are what is considered as a measure of success. Success is relative to each of us in relation to what we think it to be, but as long as we are chasing it externally, we are going to keep falling short on achieving it even if we sometimes could be blind to the fact that we do, or not be aware of it.

When we are chasing something, we are working from our ego, which is fear based. The message and the energy we send out when we do this is that we are in a place of lack. The energy we give out is what we get in return. The more we worry about something, think, and talk about all the reasons why it would eventually get worse, surround ourselves with more information on our particular worries, we can get so consumed that without even realising, we find ourselves constantly watching, reading, and listening to things that reaffirm our worries. Making them real as opposed to them being merely the chain of thoughts we’ve created in our minds.

Even the people we talk to, though it’s done out of good intent, when they agree and empathise with us, are helping us reaffirm our worries and make our thoughts a belief. Once it becomes a belief, we even go to the extent of taking physical actions to prevent a scenario that we have created in our minds as a thought which we now believe to be true. So without even realising, we have manifested this reality for us.

Remember, our mind doesn’t differentiate between what happens in our physical reality and what we visualise in our minds. If we give any thought enough emotion and feel the emotions in our body just as we would if it happened to us in the physical reality, the mind doesn’t really know a difference.

If we are constantly focused on the future or the past, and have conditioned ourselves to work from a place of fear, we cannot really be surprised if our current reality is not something we are completely happy with. The success we are looking for, happiness, joy and finally being able to relax and be at peace, these are feelings we can only attain internally. Only when we are already feeling that energy internally in the present, we will be attracting to ourselves a life that resonates with this energy.

Resistance to change is what brings about fear. Instead of resisting change and fearing the unfamiliar and the unknown, what if we embrace it? What if we find joy and peace in the uncertainty. What if we remind ourselves to be grateful that we are alive when we wake up each morning, and not take it for granted. What if we become open to life and be okay with exactly the way it pans out and let go of the illusion of control. What if we stop labelling things to be good or bad and just see it for what it is?

As you come to the present moment, and be present even in the face of adversity, you are shifting from operating from a place of fear to operating from a place of love. I hope the more you keep embracing change, and the present moment, you’ll see for yourself now, how you are bombarded with not worries or fears, but more reasons to feel grateful and events and situations that bring you so much love and joy! 💚
