Today I’m writing about something that sits close to my heart as the understanding of this has impacted my life immeasurably, helping me heal myself and to live a life filled with gratitude. It is a bit longer than my usual posts but I urge you to take in as much as you can and implement at least one of the nuggets I have mentioned and see for yourself! It starts with looking at what is comprised in the materialistic reality of our lives. How does one come about the things they possess, their wealth, good health, relationships and everything else they have acquired to be a part of their lives?
What we attract into our lives are the things that are simply in alignment with the thoughts we think, the emotions we feel, and the beliefs we have formed in our subconscious mind. We are aware of what is going on in our conscious mind but we are not capable of being aware of what exactly is happening in our subconscious mind. Then how can we know which beliefs we have formed in our subconscious mind that is driving us, and whether they are prosperous, or down right detrimental?
Well, an easy way to know what is in your subconscious mind is to simply look at your life right now and see which things in your life comes easily to you and which things you have to work a little harder for. For instance, if you are struggling with money or if you feel that you are always having to work hard for it and it is not flowing in freely as you would like, it simply indicates that the beliefs that are rooted in your subconscious mind in relation to money are probably not in alignment with the reality you desire. Similarly, if you have loving relationships with the people in your life where you feel loved and have always had great luck when it comes to love, it simply means that your subconscious beliefs about love probably take a more positive stance and resonates with the reality you consciously desire. We may have certain beliefs that are formed in our subconscious mind that we may not be aware of which could be quite detrimental to the wellbeing of our lives. It may seem daunting but don’t worry, the incredible thing is, we are able to reprogram our subconscious mind!
So let’s take a look at how these subconscious beliefs are formed in the first place!
As soon as we come into this world as a baby, and up until we are around seven years old, our brain is mainly functioning at theta brainwave state which is the same state that you are in when in meditation or hypnosis. In this state, you are extremely amenable and absorb everything in the environment as you are in a super learning state. This is probably why we have the the notion that kids are like a sponge!
Most of the beliefs that we carry out to this day, are probably learnt from our parents, in schools or from any environment we were exposed to as a child. Next time something triggers you causing you to react negatively, if you take some time to reflect and understand where this trigger is stemming from and why, you might find that it actually goes deeper than the present situation that triggered this response. Our conscious mind is an objective mind where we are able to think, identify, and assess things to be right or wrong, but when it comes to the subconscious mind, it is a subjective mind that simply believes and accepts to be true, anything you allow in through your conscious mind. This is why it is important that we are aware of our thoughts. Any thought we think of that is given more energy by giving emotion to it, and is accepted to be true by our conscious mind, if this thought pattern is repeated enough times, it will simply register in our subconscious mind as a belief that we have adapted to be true in our lives. The moment we form a subconscious belief, we are able to attract things that are aligning to that belief, in to our life!
How can we be aware of what is in our subconscious mind?
Apart from scanning our lives to see the present state of our life, we can also go deeper into our minds via meditation. When you meditate, as you go deeper and reach the state that transcends your ego mind where you are in a deep meditative state, allow yourself to go back in time to when you were a kid. Depending on the aspect of your life you want to work on (money, love, health, etc.), think of a memory associated to it and allow it to naturally come to you. Allow yourself to relive it, recall if this memory took place during day or night, where were you in this moment, were there other people around you, and allow yourself to listen if there were any conversations that took place within this memory. Reliving this memory would give you an understanding as to what form of beliefs you inherently hold in association with the particular aspect you focused on. Don’t be surprised if the memory that pops up is something you have never even recalled consciously until it comes up in the meditation as you are reaching a deeper state of mind!
If you focused on money for example, and the memory that comes through is of your parents
complaining or worrying about money or any other negative association to money, once you relive this memory, give yourself permission to let go and release this memory out of you and allow yourself to form a new positive belief in its space simply by thinking or saying out loud to yourself what you would like to be a new belief instead.
If you can’t go deeper and figure out exactly what beliefs you have, that’s okay, you can still form new beliefs in the present moment. One way of doing this is again via meditation where once you are in a meditative state, affirm to yourself the beliefs that you want to make a part of your life. Another method which might not be as effective as when your brain waves are at theta wave state, but would still be helpful is, when you are present and catch yourself thinking negative thoughts and worrying, simply shifting your thoughts to be positive and shifting your focus from worrying to focusing and thinking of the things you do want as opposed to what you do not want to become a reality. If you do this repeatedly, you will be able to prevent any negative beliefs being formed unconsciously and you will be retraining your mind to naturally look for and form patterns that are desirable for you and you wish to become a reality.
As you go to bed at night where your brain is shifting from your critical mind (beta wave state), to a relaxed mind (alpha wave state), just before falling to a fully deep sleep (delta wave state) your brain would reach the theta wave state where you are in a state between awake and sleep, similar to a hypnosis state. Then in the morning as soon as you wake up when you are transferring from deep sleep (delta wave state) back to an alert, engaged mind (beta wave state) just in between this transfer is when you reach the theta wave state (state between awake and sleep) naturally. When you have reached the theta wave state during these times, whatever you are thinking of, looking at or absorbing into your mind in any means will be easily transferred in to your subconscious mind. Then a few things you can do to try help reprogram your subconscious mind is to make use of this time when you are naturally reaching this state by affirming beliefs to yourself in your mind repeatedly as you are starting to fall asleep or looking and listening only to things you do want to add in to your life soon as you wake up. You could also avoid allowing in any information in to your mind that are not desirable during these brief stages of the day.
One last way of making something a part of the subconscious mind is to make it a habit. If you want to make meditation a daily part of your life where you do it naturally everyday without having to consciously remind yourself and it is registered in your body and mind as a part of it, carry out meditating everyday for three weeks (21 days) without fail. The more repeatedly we do something, the more it becomes a part of your subconscious mind. Just like brushing your teeth everyday, you will be surprised how after a certain point your body is yearning to meditate and you wouldn’t have to remind yourself anymore! You can do this with anything you want!
These are a simple few ways and it might seem like a mundane task and you might be lazy to actually do it but I urge you to try it out. This changed my life by allowing me to be deliberate with my thoughts and actions and only inviting in things that I actually want and enjoy in my life. This has given me so much to be grateful for and to sometimes feel so blessed where I have to pinch myself! If you try making a habit out of something, the first few weeks might be a bit tough or may feel a bit forced, but if you do stick it out, regardless if it becomes a habit, trust me you’d still feel amazing that you were disciplined enough to carry it out everyday for three weeks! Thank you for taking the time to read, Good luck! ☺️
