Let’s take a moment to notice how we talk to ourselves. Are we mostly saying and feeling how grateful we are for the things we have, are we celebrating the small things in life and the good things that happened in our day, are we feeling love towards ourselves and others, or, are we thinking of the problems we have, why something may not work, of our struggles followed by feeling sad and frustrated and sometimes even leading to anger as to why it’s not fair you have to go through whatever you’re going through.
Whatever you’re thinking and feeling consciously or unconsciously is how you feel, and that’s okay. It’s a matter of accepting that however you feel is okay. I’m not here to tell you to suppress your thoughts and feelings if you catch yourself thinking negatively. I’m here to say let’s try to be a space of love for our conscious mind. For all the thoughts that come through, let it come up, and observe with no judgement. Even if it is a pretty bad thought, and you feel ashamed you feel that way, tell yourself that it’s okay and just hold space for that thought to come up so you can release it. The more we try to ignore our thoughts or suppress them, the longer it’s going to fester inside of you and the more it’ll try to come out of you. If you find yourself feeling frustrated, acting erratically with no exact cause or you’re extremely irritable or even feeling sad for no reason, this could all come down to that you’re having pent up energy inside of you which needs to be released.
The moment you allow the thoughts to be seen and you don’t act on it but simply observe and let go, you are releasing this energy out of you for good and you’re open to the next moment. This applies to both good and bad thoughts and memories equally. Ultimately we are energy beings and we are atoms spinning around in a vast universe. As it applies to all atoms, we need to let energy pass through. So even if we’re holding on to a pleasant memory, you are simply not allowing that energy to go through creating a blockage that inhibits you being able to receive new energy.
If you go for a walk, as you walk down the street, you may walk past different trees, vehicles, and see people passing by. You do notice the things in front of you, you acknowledge it and may even notice the different colours, but as soon as you pass them, you simply let it out of your mind and your attention moves on to the next item or person you’re passing. This is what we are meant to do with each passing moment, be present completely so you’re able to enjoy the moment and be open to the next.
The more we are living in our ego minds, the more we are missing out on each moment as we are stuck in the past or the future and forgetting to actually live and enjoy the present moment where all life happens. The things about being present is, it’s impossible for you to be sad, anxious, or feel anything negative in this state as you’re simply present to what’s happening right now, not how it should be or should’ve been. You’re able to enjoy it simply as it is. All worries or negativity only happens in your mind when you’re thinking of the past or the future. If you take your focus to the present moment right now, you are doing fine.
Next time when you’re feeling stressed or anxious or even just now as you’re reading this, I urge you to be present, take notice of how your feet feel touching the ground, take a breathe and be aware of your breathe for a second, see how it feels in your body. If you’re reading this sitting down, notice how the cushion of the chair feels underneath you, open your ears to see what you hear. As I’m writing this I feel the breeze hugging my body and hear the birds chirping outside, and as I take a breathe, I simply feel grateful.
