“Thank you.”
Two words that are used around the world, in every language, in every culture. We use these two words to show appreciation and gratitude. It’s not a new thing or something I need to even emphasise on but sometimes we do say it mindlessly as well. These two words, as simple as they seem, have also changed my life.
I’m sure you’re aware of gratitude journals and how feeling grateful can do wonders. It’s not something new but it’s not something I can overlook or not tell you to do and make it a daily practice, if you aren’t already. May it be writing down a few things you’re grateful for everyday, it could be one thing or ten things, or taking in a few minutes to simply feel thankful and grateful each day in the morning or at night, it doesn’t really even matter exactly what time you do this as long as you do it.
Then again, if you’re anything like me and want to know why you should do this, why this may work, or how does it work? in a logical sense.. I’m not psyched about using the word logical but what I mean is in a way that’s easier for you to process in your mind. Whether you’re someone who’s learnt to perceive information and analyse them more scientifically, or perceive through emotion, or through understanding of the results you’ll be getting or whichever it is, I’m going to try to break it down for you.
When it comes down to it, we’re all energy. Atoms are formed together to make our physcal bodies but we are still energy. Our thoughts are energy, everything you see around you, your phone or the computer you’re reading this through, it’s all simply energy vibrating at different frequencies. When we give emotion to a specific thought we give it more energy. When we’re thinking negative thoughts which leads us to feel negative emotions such as anger, frustration, sadness, etc. we make that energy more prominent in our life and we’re also vibrating at a lower frequency when we do this. Similarly, if we think of something positive, it’ll lead us to feeling happy, peaceful, excitement, etc. which are emotions that vibrate at a higher frequency.
Why does the frequency matter?
If you think of yourself as a radio emitting signals, and notice how you need to tune in to a certain frequency to hear clear sounds of a station, so you’re not left with static noise, similarly, depending on the frequency we’re vibrating at, it is the same vibrations we attract to ourselves.
When we feel positive emotions such as love and gratitude, we’re vibrating at higher frequencies that allow us to operate from a place of love and compassion and we are tapping into things in our life that match that frequency. Where as when we’re feeling negative emotions such as feeling angry and stressed we are vibrating at lower frequencies which in turn makes us operate from a place of fear and stress that allows in things of similar frequency such as disease, depression, despair etc. So whichever the vibration your body is in right now is what you’re simply going to flood your life with.
Be mindful of this and take a few minutes everyday to simply feel grateful for the things in your life. It could be the things we tend to take granted for like the fact that you’re alive today, you can see, read, and you have good health. Even if you do not have good health right now you can still be grateful for it because up until now you were healthy. Your body is strong and working tirelessly to ensure you’re okay. Let's take a moment to thank your body for all that it does for you. These are just a few starting points. Since I started my own gratitude journal, I find it now hard not to feel grateful all day and I’m able to be present and witness the beauty in the things I’ve overlooked for so long.
Next time you say thank you to someone, try to be present and actually feel these two words as you say it. Notice how you feel when you do it presently. And for you, for reading this right now and listening to my words, Thank you!
